Marci is a special girl who came to F.U.R after an arduous start. She was found running around a boat ramp with very little left of her back left leg, and no one to help her. Putnam County Animal Control trapped her and got her in for medical care. The University of Florida Veterinary Hospital Shelter Outreach Program helped Marci get her new start, but it required that they amputate what remained of the injured leg. In order to provide her life saving surgery (amputation), they needed a rescue commitment to ensure she would not go back to the shelter to recover. We were happy to step in and take Marci into FUR.

She remained a happy go lucky dog, who barely slowed down after becoming one of our beloved tripods.Marci waited for her perfect fit, and she landed a family who could appreciate her resiliency better than we could have ever imagined or dreamed up. She was adopted by a family that includes an incredible daughter who happens to be an amputee, due to childhood cancer. It’s a beautiful thing to see a dog and a person so whole-heartedly understand one another.

We are thrilled that Marci landed exactly where she belongs. We want to offer our thanks to the team that helped Marci get to this happily ever after. She was fostered initially by Amanda DenBleyker and her family, including her daughter who is also a cancer survivor. The DenBleyker’s representative from the Child Cancer Fund, Candace Courson Ford, actually took over fostering Marci during her time with F.U.R. Through Candace and Amanda’s connections to Child Cancer Fund, Marci was introduced to her new family. All our adoptions are special, but this one is especially meaningful. We send all our wishes for the happiest life possible to Marci (now Kiah) and her amazing new family.
