A Tiny Puppy Dumped in the Road

We're so thankful our amazing rescue network came together to save this tiny little pup, Margarita! She was found standing in the middle of a road and brought to a rural shelter by a Good Samaritan. When Animal Control Officer (ACO) Morgan called Nancye right before closing to see if FUR could help, we knew we had to act fast, even though the shelter was an hour and a half away. Thankfully, Morgan kept her safe in a crate overnight while we put a plan into action.

A Village Steps Up for Margarita

As always, Palm Valley Medical Center agreed to medically board Margarita while we figured things out. The transport was a true team effort, with Torena Rowe and Jill Heyse each transporting her halfway to the vet.

Once there, Dr. Kelley and the team did a full workup. Margarita is only 6 pounds at 12 weeks old, and the poor girl was in rough shape. She has Demodex, a bad skin infection, and was loaded with parasites. When we take in dogs with medical problems, we never know what's in store, we just know they desperately need help. We couldn't leave this sweet girl alone in an outdoor kennel at a rural shelter.

The good news is she's already getting the care and treatment she needs!

Safe and Loved in Foster Care

And once again, our incredible FUR village stepped up! Walt and Shelli Shay offered to foster Margarita, and Shelli picked her up this morning and took her home. This sweet little girl is getting love and TLC for the very first time, and we can’t wait to see her blossom.

Thank you, Morgan, Nancye, Torena, Jill, Dr. Kelley and the staff at Palm Valley, and especially Walt and Shelli for fostering yet another dog in need! Every single rescue truly takes a village.
