Emergency C-Section for an Unexpected Mom

Updated: Apr 5, 2023

Another Emergency! Noella, a sweet little girl we pulled from Union last month, went into labor last night. With help from her foster mom, Julie Martinez, she successfully delivered 4 puppies. Julie was pretty convinced there were more puppies still inside, though.

When two hours went by since the last puppy we started to get concerned. We tried all the usual tricks. Julie took her for a walk outside, offered her more food and water, and rotated the puppies to make sure they were all getting milk. At the 2 1/2 hour mark there were still no more puppies, and we were getting alarmed.

Julie scrambled and got Noella and her puppies to Forever Vets Animal Hospital at Baymeadows. Dr. Dupree took X-rays and we learned that she had 4 more puppies still inside her. We’re not sure what the problem was, but the doctor thought one of them was breech and blocking the other three, so we did an emergency C-section.

The $2,100 emergency surgery was an expense we did not anticipate, but we are very relieved that Noella and all 8 puppies are doing fine, and they are going home with Julie now. Thank you Julie for staying up all night to help her deliver, staying on top of the situation and rushing her to the vet when she needed help. What's even more amazing is that we didn't know Noella was pregnant when we asked Julie to foster her. She's been amazing, and we are so grateful that Noella and her puppies have Julie to care for them.

We’ve had too many puppy emergencies lately when we thought they were all clear, so please keep these little babies in your prayers!
