Some stories are hard to read — but this one deserves to be told.
Last week, Florida Urgent Rescue pulled this sweet 10-year-old girl from Clay County Animal Services — and her condition tells a story no dog should ever have to live through.
Peppa has a very large mammary tumor, a painful skin infection, and severe ear infections. As we were loading her up, we were told, “we don’t think she can hear.” We're not sure if she's deaf, or if the ear infections are affecting her hearing. We’re hoping she might improve with proper care. She's also positive for Anaplasmosis, a bacterial tick-borne disease.
It’s clear Peppa has had multiple litters of puppies. Her body shows the toll. Dr. Sorenson at Palm Valley Veterinary Center started the medical care she desperately needs, and she will undergo surgery next week with Dr. Mack.
Right now, Peppa is safe with an incredible foster — Sarah’s former coworker Erna and her husband Georges — along with their dog Sage.
It was immediately clear that Peppa has never lived inside a home before. Everything is new. She’s curious, but nervous… unsure… a little scared. We suspect she may have spent her life outdoors, possibly as a hunting dog. She came into the shelter as a stray, but sadly, we know how often dogs like her are discarded when they’re no longer “useful.”
But that life is behind her now. For the first time, Peppa gets to experience what it means to be safe… to be cared for… to be loved. To be part of a family. This is why we do what we do.

Thank you to Jay, Ashley, Erin, and Valerie for helping make this rescue possible. And thank you Erna and Georges for fostering her. Because of you, Peppa’s story is changing We’ll keep everyone updated on her condition — please keep this sweet girl in your prayers.
