This little 2-year-old Poodle/Shih Tzu mix has already been through more than any dog should. His world was completely turned upside down after his owner passed away unexpectedly. Russell was alone in an apartment for a week, confused and waiting for someone to come back who never would. Family members came by to feed and walk him, but it was clear he didn’t understand what was happening.
Thankfully, our amazing adopter Tracey Lyons reached out to us for help after her co-worker asked about the situation. We were able to step in and give Russell a fresh start.

A Long Road to Recovery
Russell weighs only 18 pounds when he should be closer to 30. He's never been to a vet, never been vaccinated or dewormed, and was covered in fleas and filled with parasites. Despite it all, he’s been so gentle and trusting, just tired and scared.
We suspect he may be heartworm positive, but he was so terrified that the vet decided it was best to give him a little time to settle in before getting the necessary bloodwork.
Russell’s road to recovery will take time, but today, he’s safe. He's getting love, medical care, and the chance to finally feel secure.

Our Village Rallies for Russell
It takes a village, and we're so grateful to everyone who jumped in to help this sweet boy:
A huge thank you to Niki Wescott for opening her home to foster Russell!
Thank you to Dr. Nicks and her team at Sandbridge Veterinary Hospital for always treating our pups with gentleness and compassion.
Thank you once again to Erica Benson at Paw Shapers for making a special trip to groom him and giving him the comfort of a clean, soft coat.
Thank you to everyone who helped connect the dots to bring him to safety.
Welcome to the FUR family, Russell Crowe — your best days are just beginning!

Help Us Say "Yes" to the Next Urgent Animal!
Sick and injured animals need help fast. Your support allows us to cover the costs of medical care, including unexpected cases like Russell's, who will need extensive treatment.
Please consider joining our FUR Monthly Giving Program to give us the flexibility to respond immediately when there is an emergency. We don't have time to do a fundraiser and wait for those funds to get to us when there's an urgent animal in need.
