Charlie Girl: From Terrified Pup to Confident Companion

This sweet girl has come a long way thanks to love and TLC from her foster family.

Charlie Girl: From Terrified Pup to Confident Companion

When Charlie Girl first came to Florida Urgent Rescue (FUR), she was absolutely terrified. She was so scared in her kennel at Palm Valley that she would try to hide under her wall-mounted water bowl.

Thankfully, Michelle and Robbie offered to foster her, and she slowly started to come out of her shell. Meeting new people was still scary for her, though. Meet and greets were tough, and at adoption events at PETCO, she'd try to climb into the shelf and hide behind Michelle. It's no surprise that it's hard to get scared dogs adopted, and Charlie Girl was afraid of everyone she met. She gained confidence little by little, but it wasn't an easy journey.

When Michelle and Robbie had to move to a smaller place and couldn't foster her anymore, she went to Pet Paradise Jacksonville Airport. There, Missy and her trainer continued to work with Charlie Girl.

We knew the perfect adopter was out there somewhere, and we were so excited when Alejandro and Sharriea Bear wanted to meet her. She was still nervous, but better than we expected. She immediately took to Alex and Sharriea, and they followed our instructions for a slow introduction to their dog, Zeke. They took them for walks together, kept them separated with a gate initially, and when they were home alone they were in side by side crates. The slow introduction worked like a charm. Charlie settled in and gained confidence.

Now, Charlie and Zeke are the best of friends, and we're excited to announce that Charlie Girl is happily adopted! We are so happy for this sweet girl and incredibly grateful for everyone who helped her along the way.

Sick and injured animals need help fast. Every donation helps, but Monthly donors give us flexibility to respond immediately when there is an emergency. When there is a hoarding case or a hurricane, a dog with a gunshot wound or a cruelty case, we have to act quickly. We don't have time to do a fundraiser, and wait for those funds to get to us. Your monthly donation can help us save lives again and again.
