Leonidas was starved and left for dead

After an incredible transformation, Leonidas is now adopted

Leonidas was starved and left for dead

Leonidas was starved and left for dead on the side of the road. He's now completely recovered, and adopted!

As always, a lot of people came together to save him. Briana, the Union County ACO, immediately got him to the vet and reach out for help. Alicia Jones and her kids Devin and Lea, volunteered to transport him from Macclenny to Palm Valley Veterinary Center.

His red blood cell count was dangerously low, so Heather Hymer drove to St. Augustine Regional Veterinary Emergency Center (SARVEC) to pick up packed red blood cells, and Dr. Mack and Alyssa stayed late to do an emergency transfusion. Over the next week, Dr. Mack and his staff gave Leonidas the best care possible, and he slowly turned around.

Dr. Martina Sander offered to foster him, and she took Leonidas home and continued to nurse him back to health. One of her lifelong friends, Jane Gregory, drove up from Sanford to meet him, and it was love at first sight. Jane and her husband have two other dogs and several horses, so they did an extended sleepover to make sure everyone was comfortable.

Leonida has gained weight, and he's a happy, playful, normal dog. He's great friends with the horses, and he loves going for rides in the boat with his new family.
Thank you to everyone who helped save this sweet boy, including all our supporters who donated to make this possible! We usually spend 3.5 times more on vet bills than we take in through adoption fees. Last year it was 6 times higher. With all our major medical cases lately, it's even higher this year. We've been fortunate to have wonderful supporters who make all this possible. Thank you!

Sick and injured animals need help fast. Every donation helps, but Monthly donors give us flexibility to respond immediately when there is an emergency. When there is a hoarding case or a hurricane, a dog with a gunshot wound or a cruelty case, we have to act quickly. We don't have time to do a fundraiser, and wait for those funds to get to us. Your monthly donation can help us save lives again and again.
