A Senior Dog in Heartbreaking Condition

Updated: 6 days ago

Hattie is severely emaciated, missing most of her fur, and wobbly on her feet. But despite all her pain, she is remarkably gentle.
Hattie was found wandering alone in a parking lot, and a concerned citizen called Animal Care & Protective Services for help. When the animal control officer arrived, this sweet girl quietly walked right up to them—almost as if she knew they were there to save her.
And she desperately needed help.

Hattie arrived in heartbreaking condition. Weighing just 42 pounds, her body condition is difficult to look at. Her skin and joints are inflamed and hurting, and she is battling a painful double ear infection. It’s hard to look at her without wondering how long she’s been hurting and struggling on her own. Despite everything she’s been through, Hattie has shown us what a sweet, gentle soul she really is.
When Sarah saw Hattie’s urgent foster plea from ACPS, we knew we couldn’t leave her behind. But like every rescue, we needed a foster to make it possible. Sarah offered to foster her starting in two weeks, but Hattie needed a place to go immediately. That’s when Cassidy Stevens stepped up without hesitation to temporarily foster Hattie until Sarah is ready, giving this sweet girl a safe, comfortable place to rest and heal, and the TLC she desperately needs.

Sarah and Hannah brought Hattie straight to Palm Valley Veterinary Center for bloodwork and X-rays. While we were able to get her blood drawn, she was simply in too much pain for safe imaging. We’ll bring her back once she’s more comfortable so we can sedate her and get a clearer picture of what her body has endured. We have some concerns based on her bloodwork, so we'll do some additional testing at the same time.
It takes a village to pull off rescues like this. Huge thanks to Cassidy, Sarah, the staff at ACPS, and our team at Palm Valley Veterinary Center for saying "yes" to Hattie when she needed it most.
Hattie is safe now, but she has a long road ahead. Please keep her in your prayers. 𝗙𝗨𝗥 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵𝗹𝘆 𝗚𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺
