When our FUR team visited rural shelters and met Gemma, we also met another dog named Petey at Clay County Animal Services.

He came into the shelter with unknown neurological problems. He’s wobbly on his feet, and his paws are knuckling under. The Shelter brought him to the Institute of Veterinary Specialists in Gainesville for a neurological evaluation, something that not many shelters would do.

The neurologist recommended starting treatment and antibiotics, and doing more diagnostics, which include a cerebral spinal fluid tap, and MRI, both of which are very expensive.

Needless to say not many rescues are able to take this on.

Emilia fell in love with Petey when she met him at the shelter and she offered to foster even though she’s still fostering King. She drove back to the shelter yesterday to pick him up, and she took him straight to Palm Valley Veterinary Center, where Erin, Valerie and Talia met her. Dr. Ashley, Dr. Gabriel and Dr. Mack did comprehensive panels, including full bloodwork, a tech panel and a distemper titer test.

Then Sarah picked up some supplies from another foster and met Emilia to help introduce him to King and get him situated.

We don’t know yet what the future holds for this boy, but we will do everything we can to help him. We’re lucky we have an incredible team and amazing supporters who make this possible. 𝗙𝗨𝗥 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵𝗹𝘆 𝗚𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺

Sick and injured animals need help fast. Every donation helps, but Monthly donors give us flexibility to respond immediately when there is an emergency. When there is a hoarding case or a hurricane, a dog with a gunshot wound or a cruelty case, we have to act quickly. We don't have time to run a fundraiser, and wait for those funds to get to us. Your monthly donation can help us save lives again and again. Learn more at: https://www.floridaurgentrescue.org/donatemonthly
